On 3 September, FGV EPGE – Escola Brasileira de Economia e Finanças hosted the lecture “Brazil: Is future past?”, as part of the series of lectures “Contemporary Issues”. The lecture was given by former FGV EPGE Professor Cristina Terra, presently faculty member of Université de Cergy-Pontoise, France.
Professor Terra presented a political and economic retrospective of Brazil, from the 80’s till nowadays, focusing on the period of high inflation rates until PT government. She also affirmed that President Lula’s government promoted fiscal expansion programs in order to deal with crisis, as well as a growth acceleration program which reduced significantly social inequality. “President Dilma’s administration, however, has ventured into interventionist policies and, to keep inflation at low levels, used administrative prices, artificially lower.”
After the lecture, which was held at FGV headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, students had the opportunity to debate on the theme.
