The twenty-first century has brought with it profound challenges to the nature, values, and control of higher education in Brazil. Societal expectations and public resources for higher education are undergoing fundamental shifts. Changes both within and outside the academy are altering its character – its students, faculty, governance, curriculum, functions, and very place in society. On the regulatory perspective, federal oversight of higher education has evolved and expanded rapidly. This event aims at bringing together academics, practitioners and policymakers to discuss the trends and perspectives of higher education at both national and international levels.
